Spartans Open Cross Country Campaign at Ship's Galen E. Piper Challenge

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The York College men's cross country team kicked off their 2011 campaign on Saturday afternoon, competing at the Galen E. Piper Alumni / Open Cross Country Challenge at Shippensburg University. The Spartans took fourth out of the seven squads recording 129 points.

Newcomer John Wallace posted York's best finish of the day, as he took 24th out of the 106 participants. Wallace traversed the course in 20:12 to take the Spartans' top spot.

Tim Hartung and Steven Childres notched 31st and 41st place, respectively, as each looks to better their strong performances from last season. Hartung registered a time of 20:19 while Childres posted a 20:45.

Sophomore Craig Eppler proved the fourth Spartan finisher, capturing a time of 21:15. Rookie Michael Stetson notched York's fifth and final scorer, tallying a 21:32, just edging out teammate Matt Smith.

The Green and White return to action on Saturday, September 10, when they travel to Annville, Pa. for the Lebanon Valley Invitational. Start time is slated for 11:00 am.
