Spartans Open Home Season with Coach Achtzehn Classic

York, Pa. – The York College men's cross country squad opened the 2010 home slate at the Coach Achtzehn Classic held at John Rudy County Park in York, PA, on Saturday.

The Green and White placed second overall of the eight teams at the Classic with 54 points.

Freshman Tim Hartung finished with a time of 27:41, which gave him the fifth place overall. For the second week in a row, Hartung guided the way for the rest of the Spartan squad.

Senior Andrew Friesema notched a seventh-place finish for the Green and White as he crossed the line 27:47.

Sophomore Steven Childres, who was the Spartans' third finisher this day, crossed the finish line in tenth place overall with a time of 28:13.

Senior Ryan Janes and freshman Craig Eppler completed the 8k course in 15th and 17th overall (28:38 and 28:40), respectively.

The Green and White return to the competition course on Saturday, October 2, at the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University. Start time is slated for 10:00 a.m.
