Childres Named CAC Men's Cross Country Athlete-of-the-Week

YORK, PA - York College freshman Steven Childres (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Saint Joseph) has been selected as this week's Capital Athletic Conference Athlete-of-the-Week in men's cross country for his stellar performance at the York Invitational l last Saturday.

Childres paced all Spartan runners as he garnered a third-place overall finish in the race. The rookie crossed the finish line in a time of 27:52.38 as he led the Green and White to a team victory. He finished just ahead of teammate Paul Wallace (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) who clocked in at 27:54.14.

Childres has made a quick splash in just his first collegiate season. In 2009's first event, Childres came in fourth overall in the 3k event at the McDaniel Green Terror Challenge on September 12.

He will look to continue his quality performances as the Spartans are set to host the York Invitational ll this Saturday at John Rudy Park. The men's event will follow the women's which is slated for a 10:30 am start.
