TOWSON, MD-The York College men’s and women’s cross country teams combined to win the Goucher-York Relay Challenge on Saturday afternoon in Towson, MD. The event was a 14,000 men’s and women’s relay event as one male runner teamed up with one female runner to form a team. The men began by running 4,000 meters followed by a 4,000 meter leg by the female team member. The male runner then ran a second 4,000 meter leg with his female partner running the final 2,000 meters of the race.
The event was won by the Spartan tandem of Kevin Snyder (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) and Melody Parshall (Dover, Pa./Homeschooled). The duo combined to cover the course in a time of 51:19, 22 seconds ahead of the Goucher pair of Sean Mack and Fraley Coles. The York duo of Jesse Jaeger (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) and Terah Bloemer (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) placed fourth as they traversed the course in a time of 54:10. Senior Luke Fernandez (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) and Tiffany Feudale (York, Pa./Spring Grove) teamed together to post a time of 54:56, good for sixth place. Junior Kristen Hursey (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) and freshman Paul Wallace (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) placed seventh as they recorded a time of 55:07. Freshmen Matt Provonche (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright) and Mary Riley (Brookeville, Md./Stone Ridge) were the final Spartan team to finish as they placed ninth with a time of 56:38.
The Spartans return to action on November 3 when they host the 2007 Capital Athletic Conference championships at John Rudy County Park in York. The event is scheduled to kick off at 10:30 am.
