Track & Field Ready for CAC Outdoor Championships

YORK, Pa. – The York College men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Salisbury University this weekend for the Capital Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, the culmination of their spring seasons.

Both teams have athletes littered throughout the events poised for big performances, led by recent CAC Runners of the Week Alex Smith and Alayna De Bruin. Also, a pair of school records went down on the women's side this spring when Gabby Emeigh broke the hammer throw mark, and Georgia Gillcrist set a new standard in the 100-meter dash. Events begin on Friday and will continue on Saturday.

Athletes to Watch:

Grant Dell: Will be a contender in the distance races … 2016 CAC Champion in the 5000m … finished fifth in the 5000m at the York College Twilight Meet … took seventh in the 800m at the Millersville Metrics Meet … finished the spring regular season with a fifth in the 800m and sixth in the 3000m at the Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg University.

Alex Smith: 2017 CAC Champion in the 3k steeplechase … qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2017 … named the CAC Runner of the Week on May 2 … this spring, won the event at the Paul Kaiser Invitational at Shippensburg … holds the fastest time in the CAC … also finished second in the 5000m at the York College Twilight Meet, was second at the 1500m and third in the 800m at the Millersville Metrics Meet.

Andy MacGibbon: A top competitor on the Spartan cross country team, MacGibbon won the 10k race at Moravian, and also earned a ninth-place finish at the York Twilight College Meet.

Harley Heun: As a freshman has excelled in the 400m, winning the Messiah Invitational, finishing third at the York College Twilight Meet fourth at Moravian, and fifth at Millersville … his time at Messiah was the seventh-fastest time in the 400m in the CAC … also will compete in the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams.

Michael Richardson: Finished tied for sixth at Messiah … notched top-10 finishes at Millersville … is tied for fifth in the CAC after clearing 13', 3.5".

Darris Rodrigues: Finished second to Trevor Joseph at the Twilight Meet … tied Richardson for sixth at Messiah … is one of three Spartans to sit tied for fifth in the CAC after clearing 13', 3.5".

Trevor Joseph: Another standout freshman, won the pole vault at the Twilight Meet, hitting at 13' 3.5", tied for the fifth-highest mark in the CAC … also notched a top-10 finish at Messiah.

Athletes to Watch:

Alayna De Bruin: 2017 CAC Champion in the 3000 steeplechase … named CAC Athlete of the Week on April 24 after winning the steeplechase at Moravian … also has top-10 finishes in the 5000m and 1500m, taking seventh in both, at the York College Twilight Meet and Millersville Metrics Meet, respectively.

Emily Plante: Another CAC Champion in 2017 in the 400m hurdles … was third in the same event at Messiah … at York, wsa fourth in the 100m hurdles ... also finished seventh at Millersville in the 100m dash.

Anne Measley: Was the runner-up in the 400m hurdles at the 2017 CAC Championships, part of a York sweep of the top-two spots … has three top-five finishes in the 400m hurdles this spring, taking second at York, fourth at Messiah and fifth at Moravian.

Jess DelViscio: 2017 CAC runner-up in the 1500m … was fourth at the Twilight Meet in the 5000m ... took fifth in the 1500m at Shippensburg, and was fifth in the 800m at Millersville.

Gabby Emeigh: Has emerged as York's top athlete in the throws, and set the school record in the hammer throw at Shippensburg … has finished inside the top 10 on five occasions this spring, taking fifth in the javelin at York and 10th at Messiah … in the discus, was sixth at Moravian, seventh at Messiah and 10th at York.

Georgia Gillcrist: Set the school record in the 100m at Moravian on April 21 … expected to compete in the 100m, 200m and both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays … finished as the runner-up in the 200m at Messiah, was third at York and sixth at Millersville … in the 100m, was sixth at Moravian … also notched a pair of eighth-place finishes in the 400m, at York and Millersville.

Katie Krutz: Won the pole vault at Messiah … also finished seventh at Millersville.
