EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The York College men's track and field team excelled both on the track and in the field as more school records fell and personal-best times were recorded at the DeSchriver Inviatational hosted by East Stroudsburg University on Saturday.
The first record of the day fell in the 600 meter dash when Anthony Smart (Thornton, Pa. / Garnet Valley) put down the record time of 1:29.33 as he took home a tenth place finish.
Shortly after Smart's performance in the 600m, freshman Alex Smith (Ephrata, Pa. / Ephrata) set a school record of his own in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:40.72 as he placed third in the event. Smith also took home a seventh place finish in the mile with a time of 4:34.58.
Senior Michael Stetson (Old Bridge, N.J. / Old Bridge) looked very strong as he earned a first place finish the 3K with a winning time of 8:46.14.
Another senior distance runner, Craig Eppler (Bethlehem, Pa. / Northampton), also turned in a strong performance as he placed second in the 5K with a time of 15:56.30, just 0:00.02 seconds off the first place time.
The seniors kept showing up big as Okera Beidleman (Germantown, Md. / Northwest) also cracked the top five as he placed fourth in the 800 meter dash with a time of 2:01.44.
In addition to Stetson and Eppler, more distance runners performed at a high level. Freshman Ryan Aug (Monmouth Junction, N.J. / South Brunswick) placed fourth in the 5K with a time of 16:04.24, while Colin Fleming (Owings, Md. / Northern)
placed eighth in the 5K with a personal-best time of 16:16.76.
Freshman Grant Dell (Westminster, Md. / North Carroll) took home a fifth place finish in the mile with a time of 4:28.50 and placed sixth in the 800m with a time of 2:02.48.
Senior Wil Murray (Cape May Court House, N.J. / Middle Township) looked strong as he finished eighth in the 3K with a time of 9:15.23
Freshman Matthew Morgan (Ulysses, Pa. / Northern Potter) grabbed a 10th place finish in the mile as he finished with a time of 4:37.92
Darien Gray (Bladensburg, Md. / Gonzaga) turned in two solid performances as he placed 11th in the 400m with a time of 52.59 and placed 12th in the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.17.
Kevin Landis (Lincoln University, Pa. / Avon Grove) led York in the pole vault with a fifth place finish at a height of 13 feet, 5.25 inches. Landis also competed at Susquehanna University on Friday and took a fourth place finish with a personal-best height of 13 feet, 11.25 inches.
Freshman Darris Rodrigues (Palmerton, Pa. / Palmerton) also performed well in the pole vault as he placed sixth at Susquehanna on Friday with a personal-best height of 13 feet, 5.25 inches and placed 13th on Saturday with a height of 11 feet, 11.75 inches.
Ian O'Brien (Orefield, Pa. / Parkland) cracked the top ten in the weight throw with a ninth place finish with a throw of 46 feet, 4.50 inches.
The Spartans will compete at the Susquehanna University Invitational next Saturday, which will be the final meet before the CAC Indoor Championships.
