MILLERSVILLE, PA – The York College men's track & field squad had a strong showing at the 29-team Millersville Metric Meet on Saturday in Millersville, PA. The Spartans finished ninth with a team total of 39 points.
York received a number of strong performances in the meet despite consistent windy conditions that plagued the meet. Senior Tim Hartung (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) won the 5K with a time of 15:39.76 as he was over four seconds faster than the second place finisher. Teammate Matt Hayes (Drexel Hill, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) finished fifth with a time of 15:54.27 while Andrew Tyris (Voorhees, N.J./Brandywine) set a new personal best with a time of 17:05.10 in the event.
Sophomore Robert Doester (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) was fantastic in the javelin as he notched a best throw of 60.60 meters as he finished second in the event. Doester's toss is the third best toss in Division III so far in the outdoor season.
The 4x400 relay team consisting of Okera Beidleman (Germantown, Md./Northwest), James Gonzales (Baltimore, Md./Dundalk), Ryan Banta (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge), and Darnell Tillman (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) captured the victory in their race, as they finished with a winning time of 3:30.09.
Other top performers included Ricky Jones (Tamaqua, Pa./Blue Mountain) placing 6th in the 400 hurdles, Tillman finishing 7th in the 400, Gonzales placing 8th in the 1500 meters, Banta finishing 11th in the 100 meter dash, and Rafi Fernandez (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) crossing the finish line in 7th in the 10,000 meter race with a personal best of 35:38.80.
Senior Eddie Kraft (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) also set a PR with a 12th place finish in the shot put with a best throw of 13.23 meters.
The Spartans return to action next Saturday when they travel to the Johns Hopkins/Loyola University Invitational in Baltimore.
