Spartan Men Set Records at Crusader Invite

SELLINSGROVE, Pa. – The Spartan men traveled to Susquehanna University on Saturday for a solid day of competition.  Two Spartans also competed at the Armory Collegiate Invite. 

At the Armory Collegiate Invite Tim Hartung (Mohnton, Pa. / Governor Mifflin) started the weekend off with another school record for his career.  Hartung raced to his indoor best time of 14:29.60, which broke the indoor 5,000 record by almost 30 seconds.  Darien Gray (Bladensburg, Md. / Gonzaga) also had a solid day of racing at the Armory with a 19th place time of 8.58 in the 60 hurdles.

At the Crusader Invite, Aaron Robertson (Mohnton, Pa. / Governor Mifflin) led the distance squad in the mile with a time 4:40.59 that was closely followed by James Gonzales (Baltimore, Md. / Dundalk) with a time of 4:42.75.  Michael Stetson (Old Bridge, N.J. / Old Bridge) led the way in the 3k with a 5th place finish in a time of 9:12.44.  The 4x800 team had a great run finishing in a time of 8:19.75 

Starting off the sprint events was Ricky Jones (Tamaqua, Pa. / Blue Mountain) with a season best time of 8.97 in the 60 hurdles. Darnell Tillman (Enola, Pa. / East Pennsboro) had a season best time of 52.78 in the 400 for an 8th place finish. Continuing the trend of season best times was Ryan Banta (Ellicott City, Md. / Marriotts Ridge) in the 200 with a time of 23.24 for a 4th place finish.

In the field events, Alex Aponte (Delran, N.J. / Delran) started York with a 41-0.25 toss in the weight throw.  Eddie Kraft (Brick, N.J. / Brick Memorial) let loose his season best throw in the shot with a toss of 45-11.25.  Alex Palescandolo (Derwood, Md. / Magruder) followed Kraft with a great toss of 43-5.75.  Andrew Sarver (Olney, Md. / Sherwood) had a career best jump of 19-11 for his young career.

The Spartans return to action for the SU Invite at Susquehanna University on February 14.
