LEWISBURG, Pa. The York College Men's Track and Field Team returned to action in the New Year at the Bucknell mini-meet. The Spartans set a trio of new school records in addition to establishing a number of personal records.
The records started falling with Terez Beauford (Parkville, Md. / Loch Raven) in the hammer throw as he registered a best throw of 14.19 meters. Beauford headed a strong showing by the weight group as a number of throwers established new PRs.
Beidleman notched a time of 1:09.8 in the 500 meter race. Gonzales recorded his school record with a time of 2:41.2. Gonzales also posted a very strong time of 4:35.7 in the mile.
Tim Hartung (Mohnton, Pa. / Governor Mifflin), James Gonzales (Baltimore, Md. / Dundalk), and Christopher Sander (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) opened the day in the mile. Hartung was his usual self, and led the York contingent with a 2:23.33. The two freshman followed Hartung's lead, with Gonzales going 4:35.63, and Sander going 4:53.93.
Hartung closed his day in the 3k with Sander, and Colin Fleming (Owings, Md. / Northern). Hartung finished in 8:50.48, followed by Sander in 9:47.61, and Fleming wrapping up the event with 9:58.68.
Ryan Banta (Ellicott City, Md. / Marriotts Ridge) continued the Spartan speed show in the 60 meter dash with a 7.27 and in the 200, as he was able to record a time of 23.53 . Darien Gray (Bladensburg, Md. / Gonzaga) and Ricky Jones (Tamaqua, Pa. / Blue Mountain) teamed up, for the Spartans, in the 60 hurdle dash. Gray crossed the finish line in a time of 8.94, while Jones finished with a time of 9.15.
In the field, Gray showed off his hops in the triple jump with a leap 42-5.5 for a big day. Andrew Sarver (Olney, Md. / Sherwood) represented the Spartans in the high jump and cleared 5-6.5 for the day.
In the weight throw, Beauford led the York contingent that included Alexander Aponte (Delran, N.J. / Delran) and Ian O'Brien (Orefield, Pa. / Parkland). Beauford broke the school record with a monstrous toss of 46-6.75. Aponte was able to toss the weight 41-3.25, and O'Brien was able to go 40-2.25. In the shot, Robert Doster (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown) was able to lead the Spartans with a toss of 41-4.5. Alonzo Abraham (Severn, Md. / Meade) was able to follow Doster's lead and tossed the shot 39-7.75.
Spartan head coach Stephen LoBianco was pleased with the performace of his throwers.
"The throws team is definately working hard and I am glad to see that their hard work is paying off," states the first year Spartan head coach.
The Spartans will return to action in two weekends in split action with meets on January 24th at Ursinus, for the Ursinus Invitational, and on January 25th at Lebanon Valley for the Lebanon Valley Invitational.
