Freshman Gray has School Record Day
LEWISBURG, Pa. – The York College men's track team opened their indoor season at Bucknell University. The team faced top Division I and II teams in a solid warm up meet.
The day started off with two school-record breaking performances by one man. Freshman Darien Gray (Bladensburg, Md./Gonzaga) opened his career in the triple jump with a school record leap of 43-8. He followed that performance with a great day in the hurdles qualifying for the finals with an 8.64. In the 60 hurdle finals he ran a school record time of 8.60 for seventh place.
Ryan Banta (Ellicott City, Md. / Marriotts Ridge) had a great day in the 60 meter dash with a 7.26 in the prelims, and followed that up with a 7.15 in the finals to give him an eleventh place finish. Banta was able to secure a 23.42 in the 200 on the tight turns of Bucknell's track.
Andrew Sarver (Olney, Md. / Sherwood) opened his career up with solid leap of 19-5.25 to give himself a look to a bright future to go along with his 9.79 in the 60 hurdles.
For the throws, Alex Palescandolo (Derwood, Md. / Magruder) had a successful day in the shot put with a throw of 42-4, which will help him set a good pace for the season.
Coach LoBianco on the season opener, " Overall a successful first meet for the men's team to build off and come back strong in the first meet in January."
