Friesema, Cavaluchi Capture CAC Men's Track & Field Weekly Accolades

YORK, Pa. – The York College men's track & field team received great news Tuesday as Andrew Friesema and Phillip Cavaluchi were named the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week. This honor marks the second straight week that a Spartan has garnered the CAC accolade in the sport after Wil Feliciano captured league's Co-Track Athlete of the Week award last week.

Friesema secured his honor as the CAC Track Athlete of the Week following a strong performance at the Crusader Indoor Invitational at Susquehanna University last Friday evening. The senior posted a new program record and placed first in the 3,000 meters running to a 9:12.25. Friesema's effort lowered the previous Spartan-best (9:16.55, set in January 2010) by over four seconds.

Cavaluchi captures his first CAC accolade, garnering the Field Athlete of the Week award. Also competing at the Crusader Indoor, the Spartan junior grabbed second in the long jump with a leap of 6.34 meters (20-9 3/4). On the track, Cavaluchi also set a school record with a second-place finish in the 60-meter dash (7.26).

The Spartans return to action on Sunday, February 12, as they travel back to Susquehanna for an indoor meet beginning at 10:00 am.
