Friesema, Cavaluchi Break Records at Susquehanna Crusader Indoor

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The York College men's track & field team competed Friday evening at the Susquehanna Crusader Indoor in Selinsgrove, Pa. In their first Division III meet of the 2012 calendar year, the Spartans registered two school records as they continue to establish new program bests this season.

Senior Andrew Friesema provided the Green and White with one of those new school records as well as an individual triumph, both in the same event. In the 3,000 meters, Friesema lowered the previous Spartan record of 9:16.55, set last January, by over four seconds. The senior ran to a victorious and record-setting time of 9:12.25. This effort came after Friesema competed in 800 meters earlier in the meet where he posted a 2:04.57 to take fifth.

Phillip Cavaluchi put together a tremendous effort for the Green and White, establishing a new school record and taking second in a pair of events. Cavaluchi's new program mark came in the 60-meter dash. In the preliminaries, the junior ran to a 7.32 time to win his heat and qualify for the finals. In the finals, Cavaluchi etched a 7.26 into the York record books and took second overall. The long jump saw the Spartan grab another runner-up spot as he posted a leap of 6.34 meters (20' 9.75").

Freshman Joquan Jamison also had a strong meet for the Spartans. In the 200-meter dash, the rookie grabbed first overall, out of 16 competitors spread over four heats, with a 23.51. Jamison collected fourth in the 60-meter dash with a finals time of 7.39 after qualifying with the same 7.39 time. He also led out York's 4x400 relay squad, including Le Von White, Wil Feliciano, and Paul Kletzli, which finished fourth overall with a 3:35.42.

White took fourth in the 200 meters with a 23.88, while Dan Bogush qualified for the finals in the 60 hurdles and then ran to a 9.42 to finish fifth overall. Wil Murray, who is getting back into race form, showed well in the one mile as he crossed the finish line in 5:04.95.

The Spartan pole vaulters enjoyed a solid performance at the Crusader Indoor, notching two fourths as well as a seventh-place finish. Bogush and Drew Chowan tied for fourth in a trio of vaulters as they registered a 3.80-meter (12' 5.50") height. Zach Schober finished at 3.65 meters (11' 11.75") but did attempt a height of 13 feet.

In the weight throw, Eddie Kraft recorded a seventh-place 11.55-meter (37' 10.75") toss while Kameron Wansel took eighth at 11.36 meters (37' 3.25"). Alex Palescandolo posted seventh in the shot put at 11.85 meters (42' 4.00") while Kraft's 11.41-meter (37' 5.25") result landed him in tenth.

The Green and White return to action on Sunday, February 12. Set to travel back to Selinsgrove, the Spartans visit Susquehanna University once again, this time for the Susquehanna Indoor at 10:00 am. This meet will prove the final competitive tune-up before York competes in the inaugural Capital Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, February 19, at George Mason University.
