YORK, Pa. - York College men's track & field standout senior Ben Edwards has been selected as the latest Spartan Athlete of the Week following his tremendous performance in the 400 hurdles during Saturday's Paul Kaiser Classic at Shippensburg University.
Edwards, who picks up his second Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week honor this season, captured a second-place finish in the 400 hurdles. His time of 53.34, which was just .02 off the winning time, did not only break his school record in the event but it also allowed Edwards to provisionally qualify for the NCAA National Championships later this month. Currently, Edwards sits ranked 13th in Division III and will need to remain within the top 24 times in order to reach Nationals.
The senior Spartan has put together a terrific final campaign. Edwards won the 110- and 400-meter hurdles at the Capital Athletic Conference Championships in mid-April while also helping the Green and White to a 4x400 relay triumph at the league championships. He currently owns each of York's hurdle records, both indoor and outdoor, and will look to be the first Spartan to qualify for Nationals under head coach Erick Camodeca.
