YORK, Pa. – York College men's track & field received great news this week as a pair of Spartans nabbed Capital Athletic Conference honors for their efforts at last Saturday's Green & White Invitational. Senior hurdler Ben Edwards was chosen as the latest CAC Track Athlete of the Week while sophomore Phillip Cavaluchi is the league's Field Athlete of the Week.
Edwards, who secures his second CAC weekly honor of the year, put on a strong performance at the Green and White invitational last Saturday. Edwards finished first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.66 while the speedy senior also finished first in the 400 hurdles with a time of 58.34. Edwards and his partners on the 4x400m relay team, Gregory Gray, Chris Randise, and Le Von White, finished first with a new school-record time of time of 3:28.84.
Cavaluchi registers his first league accolade of 2011 as he grabbed a first-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 47.15m. Cavaluchi also registered a second-place finish in the long jump with a result of 6.46 meters. The sophomore standout was also part the 4x100 relay team that placed first with a 44.62 time..
Edwards, Cavaluchi, and the Spartan squad return to action on Friday, April 8, as they travel to Grantham, Pa. where they will compete in the two-day Messiah College Falcon Invitational. Friday's meet is scheduled to start at 4:00 pm and Saturday's meet is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am.
