YORK, PA - York College men's track & field senior distance runner Jason Hinkle (York, Pa./Eastern York) has been named the Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week for his tremendous, record-breaking performance at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C.
During last Friday's 5,000-meter run, Hinkle put together his best race of the 2010 campaign. The senior blitzed his section of the event with a strong 15:34.49, winning the group by over nine seconds. More than that however, Hinkle's time obliterates the previous Spartan-program best (15:44.30) by nearly ten seconds. That previous school record was set by Spartan Hall-of-Fame member Ken Sanders 30 years ago during the 1980 season.
Hinkle and the Spartans return to southern Pennsylvania for their next meet. York is set to travel to nearby Grantham, Pa. on Friday and Saturday of this week for the Messiah College Falcon Invitational. That meet will prove to be the final tune-up for the Green and White before heading to Salisbury, Md. for April 17th's Capital Athletic Conference Championships.
