More Records Doused at Susquehanna Open
SELINSGROVE, PA – The York College men’s track &
field squad posted yet another exceptional indoor performance at
Friday’s Susquehanna Open. The Spartans dashed a pair of
school records and registered eight top-five finishes.
The talented Green and White 4x200 crew grabbed a second-place
finish in addition to setting a new program-best. Thomas
Kentouris (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Saint Edmund's Prep),
Darren McKoy (Baltimore, Md./Mount Saint Joseph),
Ryan Liggitt (Windsor, Pa./Red Lion), and
Damian Myers (Windsor, Pa./Eastern York) combined
to post a 1:33.49.
Senior distance runner Jason Hinkle (York, Pa./Eastern
York) added York’s second school record of the
evening. In the 5,000 meters, Hinkle ran to a 16:15.07, besting the
previous low by nearly 30 seconds, good for a fourth-place
finish.
In addition to the Spartans runner-up spot in the 4x200, the Green
and White picked up four more second-place finishes. Ben
Edwards (Howell, N.J./Howell) continues his outstanding
2010 campaign as he took second in the 55-meter hurdles with a
quick 8.17. Kentouris, the lead leg in the 4x2, garnered a
second-place nod in the 55-meter dash as he has made a huge splash
to begin the year.
The Spartans’ other two seconds came via field events
– high jump and pole vault. Brandon McLaughlin (Cape
May Court House, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) leapt 6’
2” to capture the second spot while freshman Nick
Paulovich (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) registered a
tie for second with a 12” 11.5” height in the pole
vault.
The long jump, which is quickly turning into one of York’s
strongest events, saw a pair of Spartans capture top-fives.
Phil Cavaluchi (Port Carbon, Pa./Pottsville Area),
who continues to post impressive numbers in just his rookie
campaign, leapt 21’ 10” to take third while prep
teammate Jerry Bowers (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville
Area) tied for fifth with a 21’ 1.5” bound.
Bowers also added a seventh-place finish for the Green and White
with a 41’ 2.25” distance in the triple jump.
In the 200-meter dash, Myers raced to a fifth-place spot with a
23.39 while Liggitt and Kentouris took seventh and ninth,
respectively. The trio also posted three top-tens in the 55 meters
as, in addition to Kentouris’ second, Myers came in seventh
and Liggitt in eighth.
Edwards nabbed seventh in the 400, while Daniel Bosenbark
(Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area Senior) tied for
ninth in the high jump.
The Green and White return to action on March 5 when they travel
to the University of North Florida for the two-day Spring Break
Open. The event will be the Spartans first outdoor meet of the
season.
