CARLISLE, PA – The York College men’s track &
field team opened their 2009-2010 season Saturday at the Dickinson
College Holiday Indoor Invitational. The Spartans notched eleven
top-three finishes at the meet while establishing a new school
indoor record in the 4x400 relay.
That relay record came via the legs of Ben Edwards
(Howell, N.J./Howell), Damian Myers (Windsor,
Pa./Eastern York), Matthew Marthaler (Flemington,
N.J./North Hunterdon), and Jeremy Jacques (York,
Pa./Central York) as the squad ran to a 3:38.56 to take
second in the event. Edwards was joined by a trio of Spartan
newcomers as the group slashed the previous mark of 3:39.36, set on
February 16, 2008, by eight tenths-of-a-second.
York’s 4x200 relay team also put in a strong showing.
Jacques, Le Von White (Baltimore, Md./Calvert
Hall), Thomas Kentouris (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Saint
Edmund’s Prep), and Myers grabbed the runner-up spot
with a 1:36.38.
Myers also picked up his first collegiate victory in the 200-meter
dash while Jacques finished just behind Myers to take second.
Jacques also nabbed second in the 400 meters, sprinting to a
strong 52.83.
Edwards, who finished third in the 400, grabbed yet another
second-place for the Spartans. In the 55-meter hurdles, the junior
clocked in at 8.31 while senior Ryan Campbell (Stroudsberg,
Pa./Stroudsberg) placed third.
In the 55-meter dash, White ran York’s top time of 6.79
followed by Kentouris’ 6.80.
Sophomore Mark Ksiezopolski (Hillsborough,
N.J./Hillsborough), who had a great indoor season during
his freshman campaign, recorded 13’ 6” in the pole
vault as he took second in the event. Freshman Nicholas
Paulovich (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) posted
13’ in his first collegiate meet.
In his final collegiate meet before graduation, senior
Jason Kane (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley)
placed second in the triple jump.
With their first meet securely under their belt, the Spartans now
face an extended break. The Green and White return to action on
Saturday, February 13, as York travels to Selinsgrove, Pa. for the
Susquehanna Indoor Invitational.
