Spartans Pick Up Ten Firsts at Ed Narkiewicz Invitational

DALLAS, PA – The York College men’s
track & field squad put in a solid performance last week at the
Ed Narkiewicz Invitational hosted by Misericordia University. The
Spartans posted ten first-place finishes in their final meet before
this Saturday’s Capital Athletic Conference
Championships.
York’s sprinting unit captured four
victories, including two from hurdler Ben Edwards (Howell,
N.J./Howell). The sophomore secured triumphs in the 110
(16.01) and 400 hurdles (1:00.69).
Seniors Gabe Henise (York,
Pa./Dallastown) and Ryan Liggitt (Windsor, Pa./Red
Lion) traded first- and second-place spots in the 100- and
200-meter dashes. Henise’s 11.21 put him in the
winner’s slot while Liggitt followed in second. The 200
proved a reverse result as Liggitt crossed the line first (22.71)
just before Henise (22.74).
Senior runner Jesse Jaeger picked up
York’s final on-the-track win in the 3,000-meter
steeplechase, while Bill Horner (Horsham,
Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and Tyler Hickox (Milton,
Pa./Milton Area) each grabbed second in the 400 meters and
400 hurdles, respectively.
The field events also proved fruitful for the
Spartan squad.
Steve Kinnear (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) won the
pole vault with a height of 4.27 meters while Kevin
Southward (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) notched a
second-place finish (3.66 meters).
The high jump belonged to Brandon
McLaughlin (Cape May Court House, N.J./Wildwood Catholic)
who leapt 1.90 meters for the victory. Jason Kane
(Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) recorded second in the
long jump with a bound of 5.84 meters.
Senior thrower Gary Rynier (Lititz,
Pa./Warwick) captured two wins of his own while sophomore
teammate Zack Raywood (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham)
grabbed a first and two seconds. Rynier launched the hammer 39.33
meters to take the victory while also securing the shot put win.
Raywood, one of the conference’s top javelin throwers, won
the javelin event with a toss of 47.81 meters. The
sophomore’s two second-place finishes came in the discus
(33.69 meters) and the hammer.
Ryan Diggelmann (Salt Point,
N.Y./Arlington) picked up second in the shot put while
Steven Goldberg (Sparta, N.J./Harrison) notched a
third-place finish for the Green and White in the hammer. Senior
Blair Walborn (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg
Area) captured third in the javelin for the York
squad.
The Spartans will next travel to
Fredericksburg, Va. for the 2009 CAC Championships on Saturday,
April 18. The meet is set to begin at 10:00 am.
