Ksiezopolski Shines as Spartans Compete at Valentine's Invitational
CARLISLE, PA – The York College
men’s track & field team made a return trip to Dickinson
College Saturday afternoon for the school’s Valentine’s
Day Invitational. The Spartans, who also competed at Dickinson back
on January 31, recorded five top-ten finishes and set two school
records during the meet.
Freshman Mark Ksiezopolski
(Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) posted a banner day for
the Green and White, recording two top-five finishes and a school
record. Ksiezopolski’s 14’6” height in the pole
vault resulted in not only a second-place finish but also a new
school-best in the event. He improved on both York’s indoor
(13’6”) and the outdoor (14’3”) marks and
was only bested by unattached Kevin Clark’s 16’1”
height.
Ksiezopolski also nabbed a fourth-place finish
in the 55-meter dash. The rookie sprinted to a time of 6.75 seconds
to secure his top-five result.
Jason Hinkle (York, Pa./Eastern
York) added his name to the Spartan indoor record books as
he traversed the 5K in a time of 16:43.51. The Spartan junior, who
placed sixth in the race, bested teammate Paul
Wallace’s (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) record time of
17:09.89 set just one week ago.
In the 55-meter hurdles, sophomore Ben
Edwards (Howell, N.J./Howell) posted the Spartans’
best time of the season at 8.62 seconds. Edwards finished in eighth
in just his first crack at the event this year. The sophomore also
added a 13th-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of
55.20 seconds.
Senior Jason Kane (Baltimore,
Md./Archbishop Curley) nearly grabbed a pair of top-ten
finishes as he landed ninth in the triple jump and 12th in the long
jump. Kane bounded to a length of 39’10.75” in the
triple to secure his top-ten mark while he leapt
18’4.25” in the long jump.
In the meet’s lone throwing event, senior
Gary Rynier (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) placed 15th of
41 student-athletes in the shot put as he launched a heave of
39’6” for the Spartans.
The Green and White will line up for one more
indoor meet this season as they head to Selinsgrove, Pa. on
Saturday, February 21. The Susquehanna Open is slated for a 10:00
am start.
