YORK, PA – The York College men’s track & field team hosted their first home meet of the season Saturday afternoon, the 2009 York College Charity Open.
Junior Ben Edwards (Howell, N.J./Howell) continued his assault on the Spartan record books Saturday, establishes a new program-best time in the 110-meter hurdles. Edwards crossed the line at 15.32 to take first while he also nabbed the victor’s spot in the 400 hurdles (56.90).
Senior sprinter Gabe Henise (York, Pa./Dallastown) had a huge day in the final home meet of his career. Henise captured the 100-meter dash (11.06), the 200 meter-dash (22.36), and led off the Spartans’ winning 4x100 relay squad.
Darren McKoy (Baltimore, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) and Ryan Liggitt (Windsor, Pa./Red Lion), who each joined Henise in the 4x100, finished in second in the 100- and 200-meter races, respectively. McKoy, whose stellar freshman season was highlighted by garnering 2009 Capital Athletic Conference Rookie-of-the-Year honors, finished just .03 behind Henise in the 100. Liggitt clocked a 22.72 in the 200 event for his runner-up time.
The aforementioned 4x100 squad picked up yet another victory in a season full of strong performances for the group. Henise, Liggitt, Thomas Kentouris (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Saint Edmund's Prep), and McKoy combined for a time of 42.03 in the event, garnering first-place accolades.
In the 800, Danny Bosse (Sykesville,
Md./Century) captured first with a time of 2:00.39 while
Andrew Friesma (Adamstown, Pa./Cocalico) took
Brandon McLaughlin (Cape May Court House, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) came in second in the 110-meter hurdles (16.49) and Ryan Campbell (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) took the runner-up spot in the 400 hurdles with a 59.40.
The triple jump belonged to senior Jason Kane
(Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) while Steve
Kinnear (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) and Kevin Southward
(Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) went 2-3 in the pole
Austin Dubos (Ledgewood, N.J./Roxbury) launched the discus 38.20 meters to take the event. Senior Gary Rynier (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) added to York’s win total with a triumph in the hammer (41.27 meters).
The Green and White will complete their regular season slate on Monday, May 11, with a trip to the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet. The track & field action kicks off at 5:00 pm.
