Spartans Roll to Victory at LVC Invitational
ANNVILLE, PA – The York College men’s track and field team captured a victory at the Lebanon Valley Invitational on Friday afternoon in Annville, PA. The Spartans totaled 119 points to outdistance the host Flying Dutchmen as they accumulated 104 points. Goucher finished a distant third with six points.
The meet, which was the Spartans’ spring season opener, received nine first-place finishes, seven second-place finishes and four events in which the Spartans swept the top three spots.
Two Spartans posted double wins as Ryan James (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) and Ben Edwards (Howell, N.J./Howell) were multiple winners for the Green and White. James was victorious in the 800 run and the 1,500 meter run. His time in the 800 was 2:02.20 while his 1500 time was 4:12.60. James led a trio of Spartans in the 800 as Andrew Friesma (Adamstown, Pa./Cocalico) placed second with a time of 2:03.8 and Danny Bosse (Sykesville, Md./Century) finished third with a time of 2:04.40. The Spartans also captured the top three spots in the 1500 as Kevin Love (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) finished second behind James with a time of 4:16.72 while Friesma placed third, recording a time of 4:18.40.
Edwards won the 400 hurdles as he notched a strong time of 58.20 while he also won the long jump with a leap of 18’7”.
York’s other event winners included Ryan Liggitt (Windsor, Pa./Red Lion) in the 200 dash (22.60), Kevin Carullo (Shamony, N.J./Seneca) in the 400 dash (53.60), Jason Hinkle (York, Pa./Eastern York) in the 5,000 meter run (16:15.60), Brandon McLaughlin (Cape May Court House, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) in the high jump (5’8”), and Mark Ksiezoplski (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) in the pole vault (13’).
The Spartans swept the top three positions in the 400 dash as Liggitt (53.80) and Bill Horner (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) (54.50) finished behind Carullo. They also dominated the 5,000 meter run as Paul Wallace (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) finished second (16:33.9) and Patrick Lestrange (Green Brook, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) finished third (16:44.20) behind Hinkle.
Three other Spartans earned runner up finishes as Tom Kentouris (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Saint Edmund's Prep) placed second in the 100-meter dash (11.10), Zack Raywood (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) was second in the javelin (167’8”), and Gary Rynier (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was the runner-up in the hammer (133’1”).
The Spartans’ 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay teams each finished second in their respective races.
The Spartans return to action on Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28 as they travel to the University of Mary Washington to participate in the two-day Battleground Relays in Fredericksburg, VA.
