Five Spartans Compete at UD Open
NEWARK, DE – Several student-athletes
from the York College men’s track & field squad competed
at the University of Delaware Open Saturday in Newark, DE.
The Spartans took several of their top athletes to Delaware in an
attempt to make a push for Nationals. Unfortunately for the green
and white, a bid to Nationals was not in the cards but the Spartans
did grab five top-ten finishes including four in the top-five.
Senior Nate Krotzer (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern
York) captured first-place in the high jump with a leap of
1.90 meters (6’ 2.75”). One of the best athletes to
ever don the green and white, Krotzer’s quality performances
has left an indelible mark on the Spartan program.
Joe Hill (York, Pa./York Suburban) and
Ryan Liggitt (Windsor, Pa./Red Lion) each secured
third-place spots in the 110-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash
respectively. Hill concludes his Spartan career with a solid 16.14
time in the 110 hurdles. Liggitt, a junior sprinter, capped his
2008 campaign by crossing the line at 22.67 seconds.
Capital Athletic Conference pole vault champion Steve
Kinnear (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air), took fifth place by
clearing a height of 4.11 meters (13’ 6”). Only a
junior, Kinnear returns to the green and white next season looking
to defend his CAC title.
In the 100-meter dash, junior Gabe Henise (York,
Pa./Dallastown) sprinted to a time of 11.52 seconds to
grab eighth place.
With a slew of quality student-athletes returning next year and a
full off-season of recruiting for head coach Erick Camodeca, the
Spartans will enter the 2009 campaign primed to become one of the
top squads in the region.
