GRANTHAM, PA - The York College men's track and field team put in a solid performance Saturday at the Messiah Invitational. The Spartans, who earned 46 points, finished seventh out of 19 squads as the green and white prepare for next Saturday's Capital Athletic Conference Championships.
Junior thrower, Gary Rynier (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) posted one of the Spartans' two best finish of the day as he took second in the hammer throw with a toss of 41.61 meters. Rynier also had a strong showing in the shot put launching a 12.36 meter distance which was good for eleventh. Zack Raywood (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham), one of York's most talented freshmen, placed 10th in the javelin with a throw of 45.64 meters.
Steve Kinnear (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) also tallied a second place finish as he attained a height of 3.95 meters in the pole vault. Brandon McLaughlin (Cape May Court House, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) lept 1.85 meters in the high jump to capture the third spot in the event. Nate Krotzer (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern York) continues his successful senior campaign earning a pair of top-ten finishes on the day. Krotzer came in fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.85 meters, while he took ninth in the triple jump with a trio of bounds that amounted to 12.10 meters.
On the track, junior sprinter Ryan Liggitt (Windsor, Pa./Red Lion) secured the fifth spot in the 200 meter dash, crossing the line at 22.29. In the 110 meter hurdles, the green and white captured a pair of top-ten finishes as Ryan Campbell (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) posted a 16.81 time in the finals to earn sixth place while Tyler Hickox (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) garnered ninth with his 18.03 time in the preliminaries.
Akeem Mackall's (Upper Marlboro, Md./Southian) 1:03.38 time earned him an eleventh place finish in the 400 meter hurdles. Freshman Josh Michael (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) secured ninth in the 3000 meter steeplechase finishing with a time of 11:20.49. Luke Fernandez (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) grabbed ninth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 17:20.70. In the 4 x 800 meter relay, York captured third posting a time of 8:24.39.
The Spartans now set out to prepare this week for the CAC Championships that will be held at York College on Saturday, April 19.
