YORK, PA-The York College men’s track and field team opened their 2008 home campaign with a big win in the York Quad on a wet Wednesday afternoon in York. The Spartans finished with 86, easily outdistancing second place Hood as the Blazers accumulated 46 points. Goucher and Columbia Union finished tied for third with 15 points each.
The Spartans won nine events including eight individual victories and one relay win. Senior Nate Krotzer (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern York) picked up a pair of wins for the day. He won the long jump with a distance of 19’1.25”. He also was victorious in the high jump, notching a height of 5’8”. Krotzer also posted a second place finish in the triple jump as he had a leap of 37’ 9.25”.
York recorded one-two-three finishes in two events. In the javelin, freshman Zack Raywood (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) won the event with a best throw of 163’8”. He was followed by Andrew Jones (Robbinsville, N.J./Lawrence) in second with a toss of 134’6” and Blair Walborn (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area) with a distance of 133’10”. In the shot, Gary Rynier (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) posted a win with a heave of 37’4.5” while Jones recorded his second runner-up finish with a distance of 33’3.5”. Raywood finished third with a toss of 32’7.5”.
Steve Kinnear (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) picked up another win for York as he finished first in the pole vault, clearing a height of 11’.
Senior Joe Hill (York, Pa./York Suburban) cruised to a win in the 110 hurdles as he completed the race in a time of 16.62. Junior Gabe Henise (York, Pa./Dallastown) earned a win in the 100 meter dash, edging teammate Ryan Liggitt (Windsor, Pa./Red Lion) in the race. Henise notched a time of 11.60 while Liggitt had a time of 11.67. In the 200 meter dash, Liggitt returned the favor as he edged Henise 23.95 to 24.66.
The 4x100 relay team composed of Danny Toula (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg), Liggitt, Tom Kentouris (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Saint Edmund's Prep), and Henise posted a win with a time of 45.29.
Freshman Brandon McLaughlin (Cape May Court House, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) recorded one of York’s runner up finishes as he placed second to Krotzer in the high jump. Andrew Friesma (Adamstown, Pa./Cocalico) was the runner up in the 800 meters, clocking in with a time of 2:07.87. Freshman Akeem Mackall (Upper Marlboro, Md./Southian) was second in the 400 hurdles as he crossed the finish line in a time of 62.79. Freshman Matt Provonche (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright) was the final Spartan to register a second place finish as he was the runner up in the 5000 meter run with a time of 17:20.8.
The 4x400 relay team of Brad Kaufmann (Columbia, Pa./Lancaster Catholic), Bill Horner (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), Hill, and Krotzer also finished runner-up in their event, notching a time of 3:38.4.
The Spartans return to action on March 29 at the Goucher Track & Field Classic in Towson, MD.
