Spartans Take Second at Goucher Classic

TOWSON, MD - The York College men’s track and field team came up just short at the Goucher College Classic Saturday in Towson, MD, finishing second in a field of nine teams. The Spartans scored 153 points to finish behind first-place Ursinus College who scored 161.5 points while third-place Hagerstown Community College tallied 84 points.

On the day, the green and white captured 25 top-five finishes claiming the top spot in six events. Adam Bean (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) grabbed one of those first-place finishes, taking the 10,000 meter run with a time of 35:02.59. Bean’s cross country teammate Jesse Jaeger (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) was the best in the 3,000 meter steeplechase crossing the line at 10:12.84. The Spartan 4x400 squad earned top honors with their strong time of 3:33.22.

Nate Krotzer’s (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern York) six-foot two-inch leap was best among the high-jumpers, while Steve Kinnear (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) finished first in the pole vault with a height of 13 feet, 3.5 inches. In the hammer, Gary Rynier (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) launched a throw of 136 feet, one inch.

Kevin Snyder gave the Spartans a 1-2 finish in the 10,000 meters as he captured the second spot with a time of 35:20.40. Freshman Danny Bosse (Sykesville, Md./Century) finished second in the 1,500 meter run with a 4:14.80 time while senior Joe Hill (York, Pa./York Suburban) captured second in the 110 hurdles crossing the line at 15.70. Hill also took third place in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.36. The 4x100 squad earned second place points finishing in a time of 45.56.

Zack Raywood (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) took his second spot in the javelin with a throw of 152 feet, seven inches. Raywood also came in fifth in both the discus and hammer.

Aside from his first place finish in the high jump, Krotzer grabbed two fourth places in the long jump and the triple jump. Jason Kane (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) finished just behind Krotzer in the triple jump taking fifth with a leap of 38 feet, 3.5 inches.

Ryan Liggitt (Windsor, Pa./Red Lion) had a strong showing in the 100 meter dash posting a time of 11.28 to take fourth place, while Thomas Kentouris (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Saint Edmund's Prep) came in sixth with a time of 11.71.

York also gave strong performances in both the 400 and 800 meter races. Brad Kauffman (Columbia, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) and Bill Horner (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) finished third and fourth in the 400 with times of 53.16 and 53.61 respectively while Kevin Love grabbed fifth in the 800 and Bosse took sixth.

In the 3,000 meters Paul Wallace (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) earned the fourth spot with a time of 9:42.95. Matt Provonche (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright) also took fourth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:05.30.

Brandon McLaughlin (Cape May Court House, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) and Ryan Campbell (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) finished fourth and fifth respectively in the 110 hurdles.

The Spartans next travel to Duke University in Durham, NC for the Duke/Asics Invitational on April 4 and 5.
