YORK, PA-The York College men’s track and field team finished third of five teams at the 2008 Capital Athletic Conference track & field championships at the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center. The Spartans recorded 117 team points as they finished behind team champion Salisbury (246 points) and Mary Washington (154 points). Wesley finished fourth with 54 points while Hood placed fifth with 43 points.
The Spartans had one event winner as sophomore Steve Kinnear (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) captured first place in the pole vault. Kinnear cleared a height of 3.95 meters to win. The first-team All-CAC honor is the first of his career as he finished second in the event last year.
York earned six runner-up finishes at the championships. Gary Rynier (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) earned a pair of seconds as he was runner up in the shot put with a distance of 12.71 meters. Rynier was also second in the hammer with a great throw of 42.42 meters. Freshman Zack Raywood (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) had a very impressive meet in his first CAC championship. Raywood finished second in the javelin with a school record heave of 53.55 meters. He also placed third in the discus with a distance of 35.08 meters. Senior standout Nate Krotzer (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern York) was second in the high jump as he cleared a height of 1.96 meters. Krotzer also placed fourth in the triple jump (12.34 meters) for the Spartans.
Senior Joe Hill (York, Pa./York Suburban) finished second in the 110 meter hurdles, crossing the line in a time of 16.27. Hill recorded a third place finish in the 400 hurdles, notching a time of 58.24. Junior Jesse Jaeger (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) picked up York’s final second place finish as he was the runner up in the 3000 meter steeplechase, completing the race in a time of 10:19.47.
The 4x100 relay team combined to finish third with a time of 43.83 while the 4x400 relay team finished fourth with a time of 3:32.51.
In addition to Krotzer’s fourth in the triple jump, Ryan Diggelman in the shot, Brandon McLaughlin (Cape May Court House, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) in the 110 hurdles, Matt Provonche (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright) in the 5000 meters, and Danny Bosse (Sykesville, Md./Century) in the 1,500 meters also earned fourth place finishes for York.
Seven different Spartans notched top five finishes in their events. Krotzer in the 400 meters, Luke Fernandez (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) in the 5,000 meters, Blair Walborn (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area) in the javelin, Geoff Eichel (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) in the pole vault, Kevin Snyder in the 10,000 meter run, Josh Michael (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, and Kevin Love in the 1,500 meter run all finished with point-scoring finishes for the green and white.
The Spartans return to action next Saturday when they travel to the Shippensburg Invitational. The action is slated to kick off at 10:00 am.
