FROSTBURG, MD – The York College men's tennis team closed out their regular season with a 9-0 win over Frostburg State in Capital Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon in Frostburg, Maryland.
The Spartans finished the regular season with a mark of 8-9 overall and 2-5 in the CAC as they will be the sixth seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament. The Bobcats fall to 4-8 overall and 0-7 in the CAC as they will be the eighth seed in next weekend's tournament quarterfinals.
The Spartans swept the three doubles matches in a trio of competitive matches. Sam Innerst and Joel Hess combined to earn an 8-6 first doubles win. Ben Sentz and Lukas Olson posted an 8-3 win in the second doubles match. Tyler Richard and Justin Rose earned an 8-4 third doubles win to give York the early lead.
Sentz opened singles play with a 7-5, 6-3 first singles win over Shasta Braithwaite. Innerst followed with an easy 6-1, 6-0 win in the second singles match. Hess also rolled to a third singles win as he beat Derek Thompson 6-0, 6-1. Olson kept the Spartans rolling with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Justin Davis in the fourth singles match. Josiah Forry outlasted Geoffrey Goldring 7-6 (7-0), 6-1 in the fifth singles match. Richard completed the shutout with a 6-4, 6-1 sixth singles win.
The Spartans will now travel to #3 Christopher Newport University in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Capital Athletic Conference tournament. The match time will be determined on Monday.
