FROSTBURG, MD – The York College men's tennis team earned a berth into the Capital Ahtletic Conference Tournament thanks to their 9-0 win at Frostburg State University on Wednesday afternoon in Frostburg, Maryland.
The Spartans, who have won three of their last four matches, are now 4-8 overall and 3-4 in the CAC. The Spartans will be the tournament's fifth seed and will travel to Southern Virginia to face the Knights in the tournament's opening round on Friday.
The Spartans opened the match with three wins in the doubles matches. Sam Innerst and Devin Lehigh combined to earn the 8-5 first doubles win. Ben Sentz and Tyler Richard rolled to an 8-1 second doubles win while Lukas Olson and Justin Rose also recorded an 8-1 win in the third doubles match.
Innerst kicked off the singles matches with a 6-3, 7-5 first singles win over Shasta Braithwaite. Sentz evened his season record at 6-6 as he rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 second singles win over Aaron Beckner. Lehigh, Olson and Richard each recorded 6-0, 6-0 wins in their third, fourth, and fifth singles matches for York. Rose earned his first collegiate win with his 6-0, 6-1 sixth singles win.
The Spartans will head to Buena Vista, Virginia for their CAC first round tournament match against Southern Virginia. The match is slated for a 3:00 pm start on Friday.
