GETTYSBURG, PA – The York College men's tennis team ended their three-game road trip with an 6-3 non-conference loss to Gettysburg College on Monday afternoon in Gettysburg.
The Bullets improve to 3-5 overall while the Spartans fall to 1-7. The Spartans have dropped seven straight decisions.
York picked up their first point of the day with a win in one of the three doubles matches. The first doubles team of Sam Innerst and Devin Lehigh earned a 9-7 win over Kevin Maier and Rob Sharpe. The Bullets captured the second doubles match 8-4 and the third doubles point 8-2.
The Green and White won a pair of singles matches for their other two points. Freshman Ben Sentz earned a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) second singles win for the Spartans. The win was Sentz's third of the year which is the second highest total on the Spartan squad.
Fellow freshman Joel Hess recorded a fifth singles win for the Spartans. Hess defeated Andrew Corwin 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 for his team-leading fifth win of the year. Hess is now 5-1 in singles play for the Green and White.
The Spartans return to action on Sunday when they host St. Mary's and Mary Washington in a Capital Athletic Conference twin bill. York faces St. Mary's at 9:00 am followed by a 2:00 pm match against UMW.
