Bears Beat Spartans in York's Spring Opener

COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The York College men's tennis squad opened the spring portion of their 2016-17 schedule with a 7-2 loss to Ursinus College in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans are now 1-3 overall while the Bears improve to 5-1.

The match was played indoors at the Ursinus FLB Field House as the outdoor courts were still snow covered.

The Spartans earned a point in doubles play as Ben Sentz and Sam Price combined to earn a 9-8 (7-5) second doubles victory.

The Bears put the win away with victories at first, second, third and fourth singles. The final two singles matches were pro sets and Joel Hess earned an 8-6 sixth singles win over Jake Lachowicz to provide York with their other match point.

The Bears are ranked 19th in the regional rankings.

The Spartans return to action on Tuesday when they head to Albright to face the Lions in a non-conference match. Start time is set for 3:00 pm in Reading.
