MIDDLETOWN, PA – The York College men's tennis squad closed out the 2014 regular season with a 7-2 Capital Athletic Conference win over Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday afternoon in Middletown, PA.
The Spartans improve to 6-8 overall and 2-4 in the CAC. The Lions fall to 5-11 overall and 0-6 in the league.
The Spartans captured two of the three doubles points to seize control of the match early. Tyler Cheatham (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) rolled to an 8-1 first doubles win for York. The combination of Nathaniel Hoskins (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) and Matt Rosenkrantz (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) posted an 8-2 third doubles win in their match against Tyler Loy and Austin King.
In singles play, York captured the first five singles match to cruise to the win. Rosenkrantz won the first singles match 6-4, 6-2. Erk won the second singles match against Brian Leibig 7-5, 6-1. Hoskins posted a 6-4, 6-3 third doubles victory while freshman Kaltrin Bullaj (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) earned a 6-4, 6-3 fourth singles win. Rory Handlin (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) closed out the win with a 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 fifth singles win.
The Spartans head to St. Mary's College on Saturday for the opening round of the 2014 Capital Athletic Conference tournament. The first round match is slated for a 12:00 pm start.
