Spartan Men Down Goucher, Improve to 2-0

YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team notched a 6-3 non-conference win over Goucher College on Tuesday afternoon in York. The Spartans improve to 2-0 while the Gophers are 0-1.

The Spartans opened the match by capturing two of the three doubles matches to seize control of the contest early. The Gophers won the first doubles match but the Spartan team of Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) and Nathaniel Hoskins (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) posted an 8-4 second doubles win. The Spartan combo of Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) and Mario Herrera (San Francisco, Calif./Josua Christian) rolled to an 8-4 third doubles win as York took a 2-1 lead to the six singles matches.

In singles play, Matt Rosenkrantz (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow), Erk, Greenstein and freshman Kaltrin Bullaj (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) earned victories. Rosenkrantz earned a 7-5, 6-3 second singles win while Erk rolled to a 6-1, 6-3 fourth singles victory. Greenstein won the fifth singles match 6-3, 6-1 while Bullaj improved to 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they travel to Catholic University to face the Cardinals in a non-conference match. The contest is slated for an 11:00 am start.
