Men's Tennis Drops a Tough 5-4 Decision to Randolph-Macon

YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis squad dropped a tough 5-4 non-conference decision to Randolph-Macon College on a sunny Saturday in York. The Spartans fall to 10-6 overall while the Yellow Jackets improve to 4-9 with the win.

The Spartans played the match with a jumbled line up thanks to the Easter holiday as a number of York reserves played in the match.

The Yellow Jackets captured a pair of wins in the doubles matches to put the guests up 2-1 early. York's doubles win came from the duo of Zach Hanson (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) and George Sosa (Wilmington, Del./Thomas McKean) as they recorded an 8-5 win. All three doubles matches were close which would prove to be a theme throughout the day.

In singles play, junior Tyler Cheatham (Westminster, Md./Westminster) played one of his best matches of the year as he outlasted Connor Hoerr 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 in the first singles match. The win was Cheatham's second straight and his sixth first singles win of the year.

The Yellow Jackets earned wins in the second and third singles matches but Hanson capped a strong day with a 6-4, 6-3 fourth singles win. Hanson improves to 3-0 in singles play for York while his doubles win with Sosa leaves him 2-0 in doubles play this year.

RMC got a win at fifth singles but freshman Rory Hadlin (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) made his debut a successful one as the freshman notched a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 sixth singles win for the Green and White.

The Spartans return to action on Friday, April 5 when they travel to Gettysburg to face the Bullets in a non-conference contest. The match is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start.
