YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team snapped a two-match losing streak in emphatic fashion as the Spartans blanked the Southern Virginia University Knights 9-0 in non-conference play on a chilly Saturday in York.
The Spartans notched a trio of wins in the doubles action to kick off the day. Tyler Cheatham (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Nathaniel Hoskins (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) combined to notch an 8-6 win in the first doubles match. Matt Rosenkrantz (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) teamed up to roll to an 8-1 win in second doubles while the combo of Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) and Mario Herrera (San Francisco, Calif./Josua Christian) posted an 8-0 shutout in the third doubles match.
In singles play, Cheatham cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win in the first singles contest. Senior Eric Cooperman (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win in the second singles match up while Hoskins needed three sets to outlast Brian Blocher in the third single contest.
Rosenkrantz, Greenstein and Erk each registered 6-0, 6-0 wins in the fourth, fifth and sixth singles matches for York.
The Spartans, who are now 9-5 overall, return to action on Monday when they host St. Mary's College in a Capital Athletic Conference match in York. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm start.
