YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team dropped their season straight as they fell to the University of Mary Washington, 6-3, in a Capital Athletic Conference match on a brisk Friday afternoon in York.
The Eagles improve to 3-0 in the CAC and 7-6 overall while the Spartans fall to 8-5 overall and 0-2 in the league.
Mary Washington took the two doubles matches that were contested by identical 8-1 counts. The Spartans were awarded a point at the third doubles, as the Eagles didn't field a duo to compete.
The Eagles earned straight set wins in the first four singles matches. The Spartans did pick up a win in the fifth singles match as Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) notched a 6-3, 6-0 win over Sean Gould. Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) was awarded a win in the sixth singles match as he won by forfeit.
The Spartans are now off for eight days. They return to action on Saturday, March 23 when they host future CAC rival Southern Virginia in a non-conference meet. The match is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
