HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The York College men's tennis team opened their 2013 spring campaign with a 6-3 setback against Grand Rapids in Hilton Head, S.C. on Sunday evening.
The Spartans are now 5-2 overall while the Raiders improve to 2-4.
The Raiders captured two of the three doubles points to take the early lead. York's third doubles combination of Eric Cooperman (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) notched a solid 8-2 win, providing York with it's lone doubles win.
In singles play, the Raiders captured the first three singles flights. Matt Rosenkrantz (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) recorded a 6-0, 6-3 win in the fourth singles match while Erk was a double-winner on the day as he earned a 6-2, 6-0 win in the sixth singles match.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday morning as they face Eastern Nazarene in the second match of their annual spring trip. The match is slated for an 8:30 am start.
