MIDDLETOWN, PA – The York College men's tennis squad posted an 8-1 victory over future Capital Athletic Conference foe Penn State Harrisburg on Friday afternoon in Middletown, PA.
The Spartans improve to 4-0 for the fall season while the Lions are now 4-1.
The Spartans captured two of the three doubles matches to take an early lead. Tyler Cheatham (Westminster, MD./Westminster) and Nathaniel Hoskins (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) earned an 8-4 first doubles victory. Eric Cooperman (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) combined to roll to an 8-2 win in the third doubles match.
York won all six singles matches with all six coming in straight sets. Cheatham earned a 6-1, 6-4 win in the first singles match. Cooperman followed him up with a 6-3, 6-2 second singles win. Hoskins rolled to a 6-1, 6-3 third singles win while Matt Rosenkrantz (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) earned a 6-4, 7-5 fourth singles victory. Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsipanny Hills) notched a 6-1, 6-1 win in the fifth singles while Erk closed out the victory with a 6-0, 6-2 sixth singles win.
The Spartans close out their fall campaign on Saturday with a pair of matches. York hosts Ursinus at 10:30 am followed by a trip to Goucher College on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 pm.
