
STEVENSON, MD – The York College men's tennis team continued their strong play during the fall season as the Spartans downed Stevenson University 9-0 in a non-conference match on Sunday in Owings Mills, Md.
The Spartans are now 3-0 in 2012 while the Mustangs fall to 0-1.
The three Spartans doubles teams all rolled to victory to get York started off on the right foot.
Tyler Cheatham (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Nathaniel Hoskins (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) combined to post an 8-0 first doubles victory. The Spartans' second doubles squad of Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) and Mario Herrera (San Francisco, Calif./Josua Christian) earned an 8-2 victory while the third doubles team of Eric Cooperman (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) also recorded an 8-2 win in their match.
The Spartans won their six singles matches in a variety of ways. Cheatham earned a three-set victory (6-1, 4-6, 6-3) in the first singles match. Cooperman rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 straight sets win at the second singles contest. Hoskins earned a 6-1, 6-3 third singles win while Greenstein posted an 8-1 pro set win at fourth singles. Erk was impressive with a love and love, 6-0, 6-0 win in the fifth singles contest. Herrera completed the sweep with an 8-6 pro set win in the sixth singles match.
The Spartans travel to the ITA Regionals at the University of Mary Washington. The three-day tournament runs from Friday through next Sunday.
