Men's Tennis Opens Fall Season with Win

YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis squad opened their fall season on with a 5-4 non-conference win over Catholic University on a beautiful Saturday in York.

The Spartans are now 1-0 while the Cardinals are 0-1.

The Spartans captured two of three doubles matches to seize the early lead. The second doubles combination of Matt Rosenkratz (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and Jake Greenstein (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) posted an 8-6 win at second doubles. Eric Cooperman (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and Daniel Erk (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) teamed together to earn a 9-7 win at third doubles.

The Spartans and Cardinals then split the six singles matches. York earned wins at second, third and sixth singles while the Cardinals earned victories at first, fourth and fifth singles.

Cooperman earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at second singles while Nathaniel Hoskins (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) recorded a 6-4, 6-2 win at third singles. Erk breezed to a 6-1,6-2 win at sixth singles.

The Spartans travel to Messiah to face the Falcons in a non-conference contest. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm start.
