FREDERICK, Md. – The York College men's tennis team secured an 8-1 Capital Athletic Conference victory on Saturday, besting host Hood College in Frederick, Md. With the victory, the Spartans move above the .500 mark as they now stand at 8-7 overall (3-3 CAC) while the Blazers drop to 2-11 (2-4 CAC).
At second doubles, Tyler Cheatham and Nathaniel Hoskins continued their winning ways as they captured their 11th victory of the campaign. The sophomore pair collected an 8-4 result as they now move to 11-4. Third doubles saw rookies Matthew Rosenkrantz and Jake Greenstein collect an 8-0 win for their first victory as a collegiate pairing.
Singles play saw York secure five of the six available points, nabbing slots two through six. In second singles, Myers picked up a straight-set 6-2, 6-1 win as he hits the double-digit plateau with his tenth singles triumph on the year.
Hoskins recorded the third singles spot victory as Hood's Travis Kline retired during the first set. Hoskins was lead 2-0 at the time.
The fourth, fifth, and sixth spots all proved straight-set wins for the Green and White. Villari nabbed a 6-0, 6-3 result while Rosenkrantz came up with a 6-0, 6-1 win. Rosenkrantz currently leads the Spartans with 11 singles victories this season. Greenstein tallied the point in sixth singles with a 6-1, 6-0 to move to 3-1 in his young career.
The Spartans return to action on Sunday, April 15, as they host CAC foe Frostburg St. in an 11:00 am match in York, Pa.
