YORK, Pa. – The York College men's tennis team improved to 7-5 on the season with a 6-3 Capital Athletic Conference triumph over Stevenson on Monday afternoon in York. The Spartans' seventh overall victory of the season gives the Green and White a 2-2 league record while the Mustangs fall to 4-6 and 1-4 in conference play.
Philip Myers and James Villari snagged their fifth victory of year Monday, winning 8-1 in the second doubles slot. Tyler Cheatham and Nathaniel Hoskins, manning third doubles, catapulted their win total into double-digit territory with an 8-1 triumph. That win pushes the pair's record to 10-2 on the season.
In singles, the Spartans collected four straight-set victories. Myers won the third flight 6-4, 6-3 to improve to 8-6 this year while Hoskins recorded a 6-0, 6-2 win at fourth singles and increases his mark to 8-5.
Villari's 6-2, 6-1 win results in his eighth win of the season as he now stands at 8-6. Rookie Matthew Rosenkrantz snagged win number nine as he posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
The Spartans have a quick turnaround as they travel to St. Mary's (Md.) tomorrow, Tuesday, April 10, for a CAC match against the Seahawks. Match time is slated for 3:30 pm.
