YORK, Pa. – The York College men's tennis team moved above .500 with a 9-0 triumph over visiting Wesley Friday afternoon in York. The Capital Athletic Conference victory improves the Spartans' record to 5-4 (1-0 CAC) on the year while the Wolverines fall to 3-1 (0-1 CAC).
The Green and White swept all three points in doubles action. In the top slot, Tyler Cheatham and Nathaniel Hoskins recorded an 8-1 victory as they pushed their impressive season mark to 8-1. Daniel Erk and Mario Herrera won their second match together of the their first season with York, this time collecting the second spot 8-6. Jake Greenstein and Scott Showmaker, another pair of Spartan newcomers, snagged an 8-4 triumph in their first collegiate doubles match.
In singles play, York collected each of the six points available. Eric Cooperman won in the first slot with a 6-0, 6-0 victory while Philip Myers snagged a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at second singles. Hoskins won 6-2, 6-1 and reigning CAC Player of the Week James Villari captured a two-set 6-1, 6-1 win.
Matthew Rosenkrantz, who currently leads the Green and White with seven singles victories this season, secured his seventh win via a 6-1, 6-0 result at fifth singles. Greenstein won his second collegiate singles match with an 8-5 triumph.
The Spartans have a quick turnaround as they return to action on Saturday, March 31, when they travel to Mary Washington for a 4:00 pm CAC match with the Eagles.
