YORK, Pa. – The York College men's tennis squad posted a 9-0 result against visiting Albright Friday afternoon in York. The victory boosts the Spartans' record over the .500 mark at 4-3 while the Lions drop to 1-5.
York swept each of the three doubles matches on the afternoon, only surrendering a total of four games. In the top spot, Tyler Cheatham and Nathaniel Hoskins garnered their sixth doubles win of the season with an 8-0 victory. The sophomore pair now stands at a Spartan-best 6-1 on the season.
The second slot belonged to Daniel Erk and Mario Herrera who picked up an 8-3 triumph in the first match together. George Sosa and Tim DeYoung posted their first win in their first match as they secured an 8-1 triumph.
Singles also went the Spartans way. In the tightest match of the day, York's Eric Cooperman and Albright's Ruicong Lui went three sets and then extra in the third before Cooperman captured the win. The junior's victory came by way of a 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 result.
The fourth, fifth, and sixth slots played single-set matches to eight. Matthew Rosenkrantz won the fourth flight, playing in that spot for the first time this year, 8-1 and bumps his record to a Spartan-best 6-1. Jake Greenstein picked up his first collegiate singles victory with an 8-1 triumph at fifth singles while Scott Showmaker also snagged college career win number one with an 8-0 win in the sixth slot.
The Spartans return to action Sunday, March 25 when they travel to St. Mary's (Md.) for a 1:00 pm Capital Athletic Conference match against the Seahawks.
