YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis squad opened its first of three home matches in a row with a 5-4 non-conference win over Gettysburg. The Spartans improve to 3-3 on the season while Gettysburg falls to a 3-3 record.
The Spartans won two of three doubles matches. Philip Myers and James Villari won a close 8-6 match at second doubles to give the Green and White a point at doubles while Tyler Cheatham and Nathaniel Hoskins joined in with an 8-4 win to give the York the triumph at third doubles. Cheatham and Hoskins have combined six times this season and have accumulated a 5-1 mark.
In singles play, Myers picked up a three-set 1-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory over John Cronin of Gettysburg in the third spot. The senior's triumph pushes his season mark up to .500 at 4-4. Villari (6-2, 6-2) and Matthew Rosenkrantz (4-6, 6-3, 6-3) won their fifth and sixth slot singles matches, respectively, to aid the Green and White in snagging three singles points. Villari now stands at 4-4 on the season while Rosenkrantz, who has put together a strong rookie season, is 6-1.
The Spartans return to action on Friday afternoon when they host Albright College in a non-conference match at 3:00 pm.
