YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis squad opened its home campaign with an 8-1 non-conference win over Messiah College on Wednesday afternoon in York. The Spartans improve to 1-1 overall while the Falcons fall to 0-1.
The Green and White rolled to a trio of doubles victories as they took the early lead. Phil Myers and James Villari combined to post an 8-2 win in the first doubles match. Nate Hoskins and Tyler Cheatham posted an 8-1 victory in the second doubles match while Ryan Harvey and Matt Rosenkrantz rolled to an 8-0 win in the third doubles match.
In singles play, Myers recorded a 6-3, 6-4 win in the first singles match, as he downed Andrew Wismer. Harvey fell in the second singles match but York rebounded to earn straight set wins in the remaining four matches. Eric Cooperman posted a 6-2, 6-1 win in the third singles followed by Hoskins posting a 6-1, 6-0 win in the fourth singles. Villari downed Luke Sisson 6-3, 6-3 in the fifth singles while Cheatham won the sixth singles match 6-0, 6-0.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday morning when they host Ursinus College in a non-conference match at 11:00 am at the Spartan Tennis Center.
