York Moves to 6-3 with Win at Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The York College men's tennis team grabbed their sixth win of the 2010-2011 season on Tuesday as they bested host Messiah College 9-0 in Grantham, Pa. The Spartans improve to 6-3 on the year with the non-conference triumph.

York's first doubles pair of seniors Travis Klein and Colin Jones posted an 8-1 win for the Green and White. Klein and Jones snagged their third win as a duo this season including their second in the top spot.

Philip Myers and James Villari combined in the second slot to notch an 8-2 win as they improve to 5-3 together this year.

Third doubles belonged to Ryan Harvey and Justin Hostetter as they posted an 8-1 victory. The pair has now put together a 5-3 record in the 2010-2011 campaign.

Singles action saw the Green and White take each of the six matches in straight sets. Klein posted a 6-2, 6-1 win while Harvey's performance at number two nabbed him his ninth triumph of the year, 6-0, 6-2.

Jones snagged third singles (6-1, 6-3) to up his record to 9-3 while Myers posted a 6-0, 6-3 win at number four. Myers' win improves his solid record to 9-2 on the year.

Hostetter's 6-2, 6-0 result at fifth singles gives him his seventh win of the season. Freshman Nathaniel Hoskins grabbed the 6-1, 6-0 win to improve his outstanding rookie mark to 9-3.

The Spartans return to play on Thursday, March 24, when they host Capital Athletic Conference foe Hood College at 3:30 pm.
