READING, Pa. – The York College men's tennis team got back in the win column Tuesday, topping host Alvernia 9-0. With the win, the Spartans improve to 5-2 on the season while the Crusaders drop to 1-4.
York opened up the contest with a sweep of each of the three doubles matches. Phillip Myers and James Villari combined in first doubles for an 8-5 triumph in their second first-doubles match of the year. The second slot belonged to Ryan Harvey and Justin Hostetter. The consistent pairing nabbed an 8-1 win, marking their fourth win together this season. York's third doubles rookie duo of Nathaniel Hoskins and Tyler Cheatham captured their second victory of their together, picking up an 8-0 win.
The Spartans needed only two sets in each of their singles match to complete the sweep. First singles saw Travis Klein nab his sixth win of the year with a 6-3, 6-4 win.
Harvey collected the triumph at second singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win to move to 8-3 on the season while Myers secured number three with a pair of 6-1 sets.
Hostetter backed-up his win with Harvey in doubles with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at fourth singles. Hoskins posted a clean 6-0, 6-0 win at fifth singles to improve to 8-2 in his freshman year, while Villari nabbed a 6-1, 6-1 triumph.
The Spartans return home on Sunday, March 20, when they host Mary Washington in a 12:00 pm Capital Athletic Conference match.
