YORK, Pa. - The York College men's tennis team put together a flawless performance Wednesday afternoon as the Spartans secured each of the nine matches to best visiting Goucher 9-0.
The Green and White opened the day with three doubles victories. The number one doubles tandem, Travis Klein and Colin Jones, defeated Billie Weiss and Brett Blackman 8-4. Justin Hostetter and Gavin Smith in the number two spot grabbed the victory with ease, defeating Daniel Csete and Dave Hemelt 8-1. In the third spot, Ryan Harvey and Philip Myers did not drop one single game, winning 8-0.
The Spartans put on quite the show during singles play as well. Smith proved to be a valuable addition to the squad, stepping into the number one spot and defeating Weiss in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.
In the second spot Ceste of Goucher gave Klein a bit of a test but could not muster enough to win a set. Klein was victorious 6-1, 6-3.
Both Harvey and Hostetter, at numbers three and six respectively, made quick work of their opponents not dropping a single game.
Jones and Myers both won their singles matches 6-1, 6-0.
The Spartans hope to continue their outstanding performance as they travel to Fredericksburg, Va for a weekend tournament at the University of Mary Washington. The Green and White will face some of the top players in the Atlantic South Region throughout the weekend.
