Green and White Snag 5-4 Triumph

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The York College men’s tennis squad picked up their fifth win of the 2010 season courtesy of a 5-4 triumph over Catholic in Washington, D.C. on Sunday. The Spartans now move to 5-6 while the Cardinals fall to 7-5.

York nabbed a two of their five points in doubles play. Colin Jones (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) and Travis Klein (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) gave the Spartans the second doubles win with an 8-0 shutout of Michael Schinella and Michael Reaney.

Justin Hostetter (Lincoln University, Pa./Oxford Area) and Ryan Harvey (Fallston, Md./Fallston) took the third slot by way of an 8-4 result.

Singles action saw the Green and White snag three more points to secure the victory. Senior captain Steve Collison (Westville, N.J./Woodbury) won the #2 singles slot. Collison bested Schinella with a straight set 6-3, 6-4 triumph.

In addition to their doubles wins, Klein and Harvey each nabbed singles victories. Klein picked up the fourth slot with a three-set 5-7, 6-0, 6-1 result over Joe Gribbin.

Harvey, the reigning Capital Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week in men’s tennis, would capture the sixth slot with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

The Spartans quickly return to action as they play host to Dickinson College on Monday, March 29. York takes on the Red Devils in a 4:00 p.m. non-conference tilt.
