YORK, PA - The York College men's tennis squad suffered their
fourth defeat of the 2010 spring campaign as they fell to Capital
Athletic Conference foe Salisbury 8-1 at home on Tuesday. The
Spartans drop to 1-4 (0-2 CAC) on the young season while the Sea
Gulls improve their mark to 3-1 (1-0 CAC).
The Green and White's lone victory of the after came in the third
doubles match. Junior Justin Hostetter (Lincoln University,
Pa./Oxford Area) teamed with sophomore Ryan Harvey
(Fallston, Md./Fallston) to secure the #3 spot by an 8-6
count. Hostetter and Harvey topped Kyle Schneck and Justin Smith to
get the Spartans on the board.
In singles play, senior captain Steve Collison (Westville,
N.J./Woodbury) pushed Andrew Nottage to three sets in the
#2 slot. Collison captured the first set 6-3 but fell in frame #2
6-4. The third and decisive set went Nottage's way as he secured
the victory with a 6-2 result.
Third singles also saw York's Colin Jones (Felton, Pa./Red
Lion) push Henry Stuhler to three sets. Unfortunately for
the Green and White Jones' 7-5 opening set win sparked a 6-1, 6-1
run by Stuhler over the final two frames.
"Despite the end result, we definitely battled today," first-year
head coach Ryan Weber said. "I am proud of our guys for how they
worked against a talented Salisbury squad."
The Spartans will look to get back into the win column on Friday,
March 12, as they travel to Alvernia for a 3:30 p.m. contest with
the Crusaders.
